Kuvasz as Protection Dogs
There are many different "Livestock Guardian Dogs," but there is only one Kuvasz.
As you may have read on our "Kuvasz History" page, Kuvasz are believed to be the predecessors of most breeds that we classify as LGDs. They have historically been incredible livestock dogs, and for many centuries were used to guard the royalty in Hungary.

So what makes a Kuvasz different as a protector from breeds like Cane Corsos, Akbash, Anatolians, Great Pyrenees, etc?

Kuvasz are more well rounded dogs as one individual dog can guard the flock outside, come inside and play with small children, and be personal protection dogs in your home that will fend off predators both animal and human. Kuvasz are the ultimate protector of families, homes, livestock and anything that they deem is theirs. They are adaptable to living outside on a 100 acre ranch, small hobby farm, suburban house, or even an apartment in the right scenario. The bond that they form with you and your family supersedes all and their job of making sure you are safe is the most important thing to them.

While other protection dogs are great at their jobs by scaring off attackers, how many of them would you feel comfortable leaving alone with your toddler?

That's what a Kuvasz is for.

Kuvasz have an innate instinct to protect any and all children, not just the ones in their own family.

Kuvasz are superior in distinguishing right vs wrong and when they need to act. They are not going to be reactive to non-predatory animals such as deer, other than to ask them to move along, but they will do everything in their power to protect your family or their flock from predators (including out of place humans).

Kuvasz are able to take down predators such as wolves, coyotes, etc. and go face to face to fend off bears and mountain lions. There is no battle that a true Kuvasz will ever back down from.
